Stamey’s Red Slaw

At Stamey’s, you’ll find what we call red slaw or barbecue slaw next to our chopped pit cooked pork barbecue. This is a tangy variation and is unlike the usual mayonnaise-based slaw.  Our slaw is ketchup and vinegar based. It’s also gluten-free.

I was born in 1947 @ Piedmont Hospital in Greensboro and although I know I haven’t eat Stamey’s my whole life, my only memories involving BBQ is eating Stamey’s. Your red slaw has always been my favorite slaw. Even though I met and married a man from Atlanta, early on i introduced he and our girls to your BBQ & Red Slaw, so they may be Ga Peaches, they have this Tar Heels taste buds! We have always brought lots of both back home with us…we’ve gotta have our Stameys!!! Nothing, absolutely NOTHING can compare!
My Granddaughter has to make a surprise dish for her spanish class at school, but it just needs to be a dish that can compliment any dish. So, we figured red slaw! I’ve tried to make it, I even called the county extension office for Guilford County, but it just hasn’t come out right for myself or Destiny ( my Granddaughter) can you give us a hint? We even used red wine vinegar with ketchup, salt, sugar, pepper & a tad of hot sauce…..what’s wrong?
    Thanks, Nana & Destiny

Nancy, thank you for your kind words. You are on the right track with your recipe but use White House Apple Cider Vinegar.

      Good Luck
